JOOLA Nova VS Stiga Vapor

The Stiga Vapor and the JOOLA Nova DX are two of the most popular outdoor tables for sale. Both of these tables have been released within the past year and have quickly become best sellers because of their relatively inexpensive price and durability outdoors.

How Are They Different?

Because these two tables are commonly regarded as the best cheap outdoor tables available, it’s easy to end up trying to decide between the JOOLA Nova and the Stiga Vapor. But what separates the two?

Surface Thickness

Often one of the most important characteristics that determine bounce quality.

  • Stiga Vapor
    – 6mm Aluminum Plastic Composite
  • JOOLA Nova
    – 6mm Aluminum Plastic Composite

Result: Tie – both tables are made out of the same material and have the same surface thickness.

Weatherproof Durability Outdoors

The reason you’re comparing these two models. You plan to leave it outside and you don’t want the occasional downpour or freezing temperature to ruin your new table.

  • Stiga Vapor
    – Aluminum Plastic Composite, Powder-Coated Metal Undercarriage (rust resistant)
  • JOOLA Nova
    - Aluminum Plastic Composite, Multi-layer paint process with Powder-Coated Metal Undercarriage

Result: Tie – Both tables have an aluminum plastic composite surface that ensures it will be weatherproof whether you’re playing in a 90 degree downpour or a freezing blizzard.

Chassis Design

While less important than outdoor durability and bounce quality, chassis design is important in preventing sagging or keeping the surface level.

  • JOOLA Nova
    – 40mm steel apron. Auto folding legs, 4 leg levelers anti-tilting action.
  • Stiga Vapor
    – 40mm steel apron. 4 Leg Levelers anti-tilting action.

Result: Tie – Both tables have the same apron thickness, have leg levelers and auto folding legs.

Wheels

  • JOOLA Nova
    - 3-inch lockable casters
  • Stiga Vapor
    – ¾” lockable casters

Result: Winner - JOOLA Nova – Significantly larger wheels. The JOOLA Nova will be easier to move around outdoors.

Net

  • JOOLA Nova
    – Plastic outdoor net with clamps that holds the table halves together.
  • Stiga Vapor
    – Plastic outdoor net with clamps that hold the table halves together.

Result: Tie – Both tables have the same type of net clamp.

Assembly Time

  • JOOLA Nova
    – 20 Minutes
  • Stiga Vapor
    – 20 Minutes

Result: Tie – Both tables are very easy to assemble, both require attaching the wheels and you’re done.

Storage Capabilities and Dimensions

  • JOOLA Nova
    – Can separate into separate halves. Storage dimensions: 22in x 62in x 67in
  • Stiga Vapor
    – Can separate into separate halves. Storage dimensions: 28in x 60in x 62in

Result: Stiga Vapor winner – When storing a ping pong table, depth is generally the most important measurement. Because the Stiga Vapor has a lower depth, (width x height x depth), it’s easier to store.

Design

  • JOOLA Nova
    – Blue top, silk-screen stripping.
  • Stiga Vapor
    – Blue top, silk-screen stripping.

Result: Tie – Both tables have a blue top and silk screen stripping. Personally I believe the JOOLA Nova looks better, but this is simply a matter of opinion.

Price

Result: Tie – While prices change, both tables are priced around $500 dollars, but the Stiga Vapor has a slight edge.

Brand Recognition

Stiga and JOOLA are world-renowned brands that have been leaders in the table tennis market for decades. Both these companies hold a high standard of quality for their tables as well as customer service.

Mistakes do happen, and people that have reported receiving damaged goods have received a quick and polite response.

Which one would I choose?

I would pick the JOOLA Nova DX simply because it has received so many positive reviews in the short time it has been for sale. The Stiga Vapor also has a good number of positive reviews, but nowhere near as many as the JOOLA Nova DX. I also think the JOOLA Nova has a sleeker more professional design.

Conclusion

It was a tight race, both these tables are so alike that it almost doesn’t matter which one you choose. They are made out of the same weatherproof materials, have the same surface thickness and even have an equal assembly time.

The one major difference I noticed was the size of the wheels and because this matters very little (unless you’re rolling your table a long distance), it really shouldn’t impact your decision.
